2025 Legislative Session: LHBA Protecting Builders

The HomeBuilders Self Insurers Fund believes our job goes beyond providing workers’ comp coverage. We’re here to support the builders and contractors who keep Louisiana growing, and that includes standing behind the policies and reforms that protect your business. 

As the 2025 Legislative Session kicks off, the Louisiana Home Builders Association (LHBA) is leading the charge on a number of critical issues impacting our industry. With over 800 bills filed, many aim to address Louisiana’s ongoing insurance crisis—a crisis that’s driving costs higher for everyone. Our state’s insurance premiums are nearly double the national average, and legal costs tied to injury claims are three times higher. 

The LHBA is working hard to fix that. They’re supporting reforms that promote fairness and transparency in the legal system. For example, they’re trying to allow juries to see actual medical costs, limit damage awards for uninsured drivers and hold plaintiffs accountable when they’re more at fault. These changes matter because they help control costs, reduce abuse of the system and keep insurance options available in our state. 

That work directly supports what we do at SIF. We’re proud to be a part of an organization that exists to serve Louisiana’s builders, not outside investors. Every dollar we save through better policy and fewer frivolous claims goes back into keeping your coverage affordable and effective.
